Simple lifestyle experiment
We are mortal beings with limited resources, limited time. If you lived your life like each day was your last, you wouldn't likely accomplish much. We must plan as if we are going to be here for much more time than we're guaranteed, which isn't more than the moment we have. Death, as Steve Jobs recently expressed, crystallizes the things we want to do with our lives.
Better sleep
Sleep is a major power multiplier for mental and physical performance. My experiments revealed (anecdotally, this isn't hard science yall) that in this order I received the most powerful deep sleep from the following and best when cocktailed.
- Cold exposure
Inbound email in the cloud
Many people think there's something special or different about cloud servers and email. There's not. It works just like any other machine or virtual machine.
Live better through seven simple rules
I'm a high school drop out who married a college drop out who dropped out of college because we had our first child a little too early. I compounded our bad decisions multiple times in our early life, and we experienced poverty for much of those early years. We've slowly scaled from poverty to comfort and live now in relative comfort.
Better me, faster plan: how the fat guy stops being fat
I've been fat for nearly twenty years. I have better things to do then sit around obsessing about what I'm going to eat. But, so far a combination of slow carb diet (think that's a trademark now), a hand full of supplements, modest exercise, some interesting lifestyle changes and body hacks brought my labs within normal from the brink of biochemical disaster.
Dumb multiplied by bad
A client's client has a high profile website. He's a platinum country music artist and his store is offline. The domain expired. Dumb? Yep! So, just renew it! Nope, no can do. They're using a registration company that uses the last six digits of the credit card number used to pay the last bill as a security identifier. So, all you have to do to hijack a domain is pay for its renewal.
Escape the funk
Ever get depressed, down or in an emotional rut? Me too. Here are 7 steps that helped me achieve a better state of mind and an improved lifestyle.
Ice baths, back to sub 80 glucose
I've been doing Slow Carb Light™ lately. That means I've been doing free day, beans, lentils and occasional cheats (cheese, "white foods"). I've gained 5 lbs doing this which could be more muscle, but may be more fat since I've also stopped all weight lifting. Back on the wagon, I added the magic pill for sub 80 mg/dL fasting glucose: ice baths.
Embracing my inner jerk
Successful weight loss step 1: embrace the inner jerk you need to deflect bad influence. Today I sat down for breakfast with my parents and my sweet great aunt. She wanted to eat at Jack's. I don't like the food, at best it's just bad for me no matter what or how I order, so I had coffee and water. "Are you not eating anything?"
Skip that late night meal
I'm watching glucose which is quite easily monitored. And, a protein rich meal (fat + protein is even better) has little to no negative effect on morning (fasting) blood glucose, especially if muscles are primed to absorb glucose (exercise does this). Cheese is the exception here.
