"Day off" may be a bad idea for me
My "day off" was inspired by Tim Ferriss, an author and purveyor of lifestyle design. What really struck me was his admitted food abuse. In the book The Four Hour Work Week he describes a scene where he's scarfing down a dozen glazed dougnuts. Oh the luxury, the pure indulgence! It really appealed to me.
After strictly adhering to a slow carb regimen for something like ten days, I treated myself to a single blow out meal where my wife prepared ham, glazed apples and chocolate cake. It was so intoxicating, both the sugar and liberty to feel no shame. I stuck to the plan well over a week and this was my predetermined moment of glutiny. It was disciplined and completely indulgent at the same time. Pure extasy.
My buzz turned into more of a hangover by early morning. I could feel that bloat, the familiar morning joint pain. But, the real moment of sobriety happened when I stepped onto the scales the following evening. I'd gained six pounds overnight.
I think the day off ritual may be on hold until I hit another weight milestone, perhaps an A1C under 6.
