Looking back over old blog posts, shockingly I hadn't covered this topic. Here's a few helpful hints as to why I (and many others) won't follow you back on Twitter. See how many ring true for your Twitter profile:

• Your content was pornographic
• You had 5-10 tweets, all linking to the same website
• You're obviously [JUST] selling something, not interested in engaging in conversation
• You had some pervy pic on your profile
• You promised to "make me rich" which made me clutch my wallet and click "block"
• You refer to yourself as a guru
• You're a self-proclaimed real-estate genius in a market I couldn't care less about
• You're an SEO expert, and amongst the other 5 million SEO experts how unique are you?
• Your twitter profile pic is blank
• Your twitter background is default
• You've never tweeted, so why are you following people?
• You've only tweeted 5 times and it sounds like sex phone ad

If this looks like your profile on Twitter, and it's accurate, don't bother changing it to suit me. Chances are I'll either just ignore your solicitations or get irritated and unfollow you later, or worse. If you're a legit person and simply don't get it, perhaps you should linger around on some moderately successfull Twitter accounts and see what engages people.
