Windows 7 speed and cleanliness
Windows 7 (RC) installs much faster than Vista, but I'm using the Release Candidate. Microsoft may decide to throw a ton of DRM (Digital Rights Management) in at the last minute or perhaps new "features" that cripple the OS. My installation process was fast, clean, and simple. There are already 8 "important" updates for Windows 7. However, I'm still relatively happy with its performance. It's basically Vista but faster, cleaner and much more functional.

The first thing you'll want to do is modify (or completely shut down) the UAC (User Account Control) settings. This is the service that pops up and asks for your permission at practically every turn. It's quite annoying if you don't modify it. However, for some people these notices can be quite helpful. If you turn then off, behave carefully.
First, click on Start (little Windows icon on the left bottom of the screen by default) => Getting Started => Change UAC Settings.

Once there, you can set your settings as sensative or as quite as you like. I prefer my computer to leave me alone and let me do what I want unmolested.
