My growing do list

I have a growing spreadsheet called do.ods. It is an open document spreadsheet, like an Excel spreadsheet, that lists all the little projects I'd like to complete. Unsurprisingly, I stopped looking at it months ago. And, unsurprisingly it's mostly unfinished tasks.

Here are a few things I'd like to do in the next twelve months, if I am blessed with another year of able-bodied life.

  • Glorify the Lord
  • Spend an hour each and every day just having fun
  • Establish plan for laundry
  • Add closet space or some organization that makes clothes storage simpler
  • Sound proof a work room in or close to the house (renting an office is an option)
  • Finish the guest room in my basement
  • Establish a daily exercise regimen
  • Go fishing with my children, at least four times
  • Plan a trip with my father
  • Plan a trip with my father inlaw
  • Plan a trip with my little brother
  • Spend at least two weekends with my mother
  • Take a family vacation
  • Take my wife on a weekend getaway
  • Find a hairstyle
  • Lose 50 lbs
  • Sure up floors in house (some don't have adequate support)
  • Clean wall in basement den and resurface it
  • Replace floor in basement den
  • Take children camping, at least three times
  • Stop working Saturdays and Sundays (unless traveling)
  • Visit family at least once monthly
  • Buy two newer cars for my eldest and me
  • Repair my home's eve and fascia
  • Start a weekly Bible study
  • Learn to read faster
  • Read 10 technical books cover to cover
  • Sell a half million dollars worth of something new
  • Establish a family night
  • Establish a friends night
  • Grill at least twice monthly
  • Build a video room/space and broadcast weekly
  • Buy only clothes I want to wear
  • Eat only food I enjoy
  • Stop talking about mundane things when it's not fun
  • Work on someone else's house at least once monthly
  • Work on my own house at least once monthly
  • Find a hobby to share with each of my two children
  • Plan a family trip to Yellowstone, Glacier National and The Grand Canyon
  • Prepare and plan a speaking/teaching/selling tour
  • Write one good article a week
  • Complete my first book
  • Schedule 20 billable hours weekly or spend those hours prospecting
  • Budget every dollar spent
  • Save 10% of my net income
  • Use 10% of my net income to pay down debt
  • Remodel my eldest daughter's bathroom
  • Make plan for younger daughter's future bedroom
  • Beautify back yard and create entertaining space
  • Grow a garden

This list is growing. Part of the list is the act, the other part is the resource necessary to perform the act. Some are simply decisions or goals. Most require money, time and attention.

It's nice to put this into a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet allows me to track the action(s) and the resources or materials required, including the financial aspects. It helps make the list real and practical. I've attached my file in both an ODS (Open Document Spreadsheet) and XLS (Excel Spreadsheet) format. The do file I've attached doesn't include all my tasks. It's just the one I had before I revisited this process to get it back on track. But, it may help you create your own "do list."
