Obama Ad: Fair Content, Bad Form

"He's the biggest celebrity in the world. But, is he ready to lead? With gas prices souring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling? And says he'll raise taxes on electricity? Higher taxes, more foreign oil. That's the real Obama."

I would have left out the Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears pictures. It's a bad comparison. And, the ad would have been just as strong with the chants "Obama, Obama, Obama," and the snapshots of him. Look at Obama's ads, his swagger, his legion of supporters. He's as celebrity and rockstar politician as they get. When they compare you to Kennedy, it's not about policy, it's about appeal. The ad says "hey he's a celebrity and cool, but does that mean he's going to be a good president?" That's fair, and a good question regardless of who you support.

In temporary courtrooms at a fairgrounds here, 270 illegal immigrants were sentenced this week to five months in prison for working at a meatpacking plant with false documents.

I just found Issuu, which is a great example of what so many publishing clients request: a web-based flash, page-turning version of their paper (PDF) publication.

So, I got an account: issuu.com/jasonn. I mean why not - just another social networking membership, right?

It has a miserably flashed up interface, but I bet most folks will consider this cool and desirable. And, to be fare, I can hardly make an argument against a purely flash interface when that is their core content.

People often repeat stupid things they hear in pop culture that are obviously untrue. For example, when I tell someone I intend to lose weight by eating less I'm often confronted by someone who exclaims “You can't lose weight by not eating!”

Wrong! I've never met anyone that gained weight while fasting. It is a guarantee that you will lose weight if you fast. As a matter of fact, it's such a profoundly stupid statement that I assume they obviously don't really mean that someone that fasts will gain weight or maintain their present body weight. These people argue their point with such passion while refusing to deal with the basic laws of physics. It's like talking to the people who believe in water powered automobiles.

I found Good Magazine while waiting on my daughter's lightening delayed plane to dock and let her off at the Birmingham (AL) Airport. Airport reading material usually reflects an odd coupling of mindless pop-culture dribble and cutting edge, thought provoking periodicals. I picked up this periodical because the cover caught my attention - an AK-47 sketch in black on an orange background with "GOOD" in big bold block letters at the top. I thought "yeah, that's a good design."

A: Because polygraph tests are used as a form of psychological tribulation, designed to push the subject to break and reveal their guilt. They NEVER exonerate the suspect.

Q: Why did the Ramseys "lawyer up" instead of cooperating?

A: Because they were people of means, already privy to legal advise. No lawyer worth his salt lets prosecutors have their way with a client. When a prosecuter is pressured by the public to put someone in jail, they find the most sellable theory and go to trial. If the Ramsey's had not lawyered up, Mrs. Ramsey would have died in prison.

Wow, that's nuts. So if someone writes an article about testicular cancer - banned. And, be careful writing about women's health issues relating to genitals. You can't report about cock fighting. And, don't even think of writing an article about coon dogs. Banned!
