Yesterday I blogged that I'm considering an ortho surgeon. I don't know if I need one or not, but my internist has suggested I probably do. So, I'm off to see a surgeon to determine whether or not I need surgery.

That's not the story here.

A friend of mine receives updates from my blog, and emailed me immediately suggesting a surgeon he knows of in my home state.

I just post a blog considering a surgeon and the power of friends and personal networks goes to work for me. I didn't email him personally, ask for advice from him or anyone in his local network, and poof -- I get his input anyway. That's extremely cool.

I'm getting out of a funk, again.

I'm in a funk. Mostly, I'm developing a fear about my future and wondering if I can meet my financial goals and production goals based on what I've done recently. Let me be clear, this is largely based on clear judgment. My income has gone down recently, not up. My productivity is in the tank, and my company hasn't released a new product or offering in more than six months. Things are not going well.

I've got to do this!

America's Best Education Free of Charge

If you believe an education is valuable, there's gold in them there hills! Some of America's greatest learning institutions offer some of their best educational programs freely online.

The free online university courseware is a hoot. There's something particularly satisfying about believing I'm getting a free ride in one of the world's best educational facilities.

MIT, UC Berkeley, and a few other reputable universities offer free courseware online - no credit of course. It's just the material and classes. But, it looks awfully good at first glance. Organizations like learner.org (The Annenburg Group) also offer some great courseware online free to anyone willing to use their computer to attend classes.

Man, I'm busy!

I've been so busy that I've ignored the fact that my website software is WAAAY behind. No biggy, so what really. I get paid zilch to run the website and couldn't care less if it crashed for a few hours... days. Only, I'm kind of in the internet business. People drop in on this site ever once in a while. And, crashing the site was bad juju. So, I grabbed a backup and threw it on a new server.

I received this email from a particularly thrifty, yet slightly obsessive consumer in my family.

This morning I noticed that I'm down to my last roll of toilet paper. I haven't bought any since I moved to XXXXXXXX; no, I'm not joking.

So I'm glancing over dealnews and I saw this listing and it was like fate: two clicks, stock up until 2008.

He moved over a year ago. The guy bought a lot of toilet paper before he moved.

I consider myself a fairly adept communicator. And, yet often I try to communicate important details to people, and they prove to me that I can't explain anything to them clearly.

The problem with communications, language, and syntactical observance, is that people don't hear words, language, structure, or truth. They hear with their emotions, their bigotry, and their desires both good and bad. You can explain a fact to a man as many ways as possible, and he will still only understand that which he is willing to comprehend.

I've been on a Digg kick lately, so there's quite a few links there, on this site. I've been visiting it mostly for personal market research, but it's also got a TON of info streaming through it. And, some of it... a small portion of the stuff is good content.

An Annenberg learning project offers free online access to their submersion style language training program. Or, you can buy the DVDs for $700. No, you read that properly. You can a) buy the DVDs for $700 or b) watch the videos free.

It's a real pain to deal with the computerized gatekeepers these days. I have a question your computer doesn't offer a key to: "How do I talk to a real human being?"

Obviously, this list is for English speakers - any Spanish speakers that wish to add content, please contact me.

If you don't find what you need here, you may want to visit the Get a Human Project, which appears well kept. It likely has more good information than this page, but on the other hand it has a heavy flash script which may drive you a little nuts if you're using a Firefox browser (I'm sure they'll correct that at some point).

Time management made simple? Sure! That sounds excellent. It's much more difficult than it sounds. I don't manage my time worth a flip. And, why? Well, truthfully, I like to spend a lot of energy on stuff that doesn't make any real impact on my life. And, I loathe to do the things that really make a huge impact on my life. I also tend to let clients direct my time. Their emergencies become mine. Some clients create anxiety and manage to create a passionate obsession in my day for their problem. That's often not good my profitability or peace of mind. And, often they don't end up with the best solution. So, what's my solution? There's only one answer: discipline!
